Constructed in 1895, the Monticello United Methodist Church is a Carpenter Gothic-style structure that replaced a previous building demolished by a tornado in the 1890s. Its construction cost totaled $3,500. Over time, enhancements were made, including the addition of a Sunday School in 1927 and improvements to the sanctuary in 1935, which featured memorial windows, a pipe organ, a chandelier, and chimes. The building served its congregation until 1955 when it was deemed inadequate. Subsequently, in 1957, the church purchased a new site, and by 1960, the original building was sold and repurposed as a funeral home. Some of its original stained glass found a home in the new Methodist Church opened nearby in the 1960s.

Following its original use, the structure transitioned into various businesses, such as serving as a library for Jasper County until early 2003. An attempt to convert it into an event space in the late 2000s proved unsuccessful after a brief renovation effort. In 2021, a private buyer acquired the building with intentions to restore it, yet the plans never materialized. Since then, the building has remained unused, occasionally utilized for storage purposes.
